Magazine Scan-dal! New Toyota Sprinter Renderings

Oh how we love Japanese magazines and their prolific renderings of cars that don’t yet exist. Spotted on the Celica-Supra forums were these scans of an unidentified Japanese car mag, with computer generated renderings of a future Toyota Celica, Supra and what seems to be a FR Sprinter. The last Sprinter to sport a RWD chassis was of course the much-revered AE86, the car immortalised in Suichi Shigeno’s Initial D manga/anime series.

While it’d be great to have the Sprinter make a triumphant, tyre-screeching return, the sad reality is that the days of cheap n’ cheerful RWD Japanese cars like the AE86 are pretty much over. With news of Hyundai’s FR Concept Genesis platform being production-ready, the next era of low-cost sideways sliders are more likely to come from the land of kimchi than the land of the rising sun.

Stay tuned, as JPCN will be getting these pages translated soon (the headlines at least, the body copy is barely legible) to get a better idea of just why these renderings made it into print. To have a look at the full scans, head over to the Celica-Supra forums.
