It’s official: After a backlash from Subaru fans over the original “chromed eggcrate” or “shitty” grille design, Subaru Australia has deigned it necessary to equip all antipodean Impreza WRX’s with a simple wire mesh grille.
With looks that make the unloved “bugeye” WRX look gorgeous by comparison, the new GH Imprezas have copped a lot of flak for their rather uninspiring styling. In an effort to inject a bit more visual muscle, Subaru Australia will fit all GH Impreza WRXs with a black mesh grille.
According to a report by Drive.com.au, Subaru Australia also hinted there would be more Australia-specific changes, with Subaru Australia spokesman David Rowley saying “There will be some other substantial differences revealed at launch time.” While he wasn’t specific about what exactly would be changed, Mr Rowley did say certain aspects of the powertrain, suspension and interior would be unique to Australia.
We’ll know for sure once the car gets its Australian release in September.
