To celebrate the sale of more than 5000 IS 250s in Australia, Lexus Australia will be offering the limited-edition IS 250X.
Produced in a limited run of 260 cars, the IS 250X will feature several unique features to set it apart from regular IS 250s. Perhaps the most visible additions are the tasty new 18-inch five-spoke wheels and “X” badges.
Less visible, but just as tangible is the sports suspension, which lowers ride height and stiffens up the IS 250X’s handling. Pleasingly, the X will also be available with an honest-to-goodness manual transmission, showing that Lexus at least recognises that there are some sensations that modern automotive technology can’t replicate and that there are people out there that still enjoy using the left side of their bodies.
The Lexus IS 250X will go on sale in Australia from late July onwards, with an RRP of AUD $64,390 for the manual. Full press release is available here.
IS Coupe on its way?
Interestingly, the divisional manager for Lexus Australia, John Roca, alluded to the future addition of an IS coupe to the Lexus stable when he said in the press release:
“We are very excited about some of the upcoming developments for the IS Line, including the V8-powered IS-F and potentially, an IS coupe in the future”
An IS coupe has been something that has been speculated upon in the past with no official comment from Lexus, but now it seems that Mr Roca just may have let the cat out of the bag.
