Lexus Linuep Revealed: LF-A = LF-1

According to a report in Automotive News, what we’ve been calling the LF-A will actually be released as the LF-1 early-to-mid next year. The new name is apparently an homage to Toyota’s involvement in Formula 1 and the release date is said to coincide with Toyota’s 70th birthday celebrations. According to AN, The LF-1 will definitely feature a 500hp V10 coupled to an all-wheel-drive drivetrain.

As for other cars in the Lexus stable, the IS range will be expanded with the addition of a folding hardtop coupe, while the SC will undergo a major cosmetic redesign (thank god) as well as a powerplant change to a 4.6-litre V8. This is awesome news! Especially the part about the SC430 getting a facelift, my god. About time. That thing was horrid from day one.

You reported last week that the LF-A/LF-1 would be appearing at the Pebble Beach event—did that end up happening? I haven’t seen any news on that at all. A little disappointed if they didn’t end up showing it!

Oh, I’m with you totally on the SC facelift. It’s a good thing trophy wives have a very poorly-developed sense of style…

As for the LF-1 at Pebble Beach, I’ve come across no post-event reports or photos of it thus far. Being an invitation-only event it’s highly likely no one from the auto enthusiast press actually got in. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for any news on this though, rest assured.
