It’s been ages since we last heard anything about a sports version of Lexus’ GS, but now, according to Motor Trend, it appears that a GS-F could become a reality by 2012.
Details are sketchy and Motor Trend doesn’t quote any sources, but it’s being speculated that the GS-F will make use of the LF-1’s 500hp V10 engine and will channel power through an up-rated 8-speed automatic equipped with paddle shifters. Chassis strength is apparently being addressed too, with reinforcements (and the weight that goes with them) being a necessary evil to counteract the torque of that V10.
While none of this news is official and Lexus is remaining mum on the topic of a GS-F, it would clearly be in Lexus’ interests to create such a monster. Lexus has always had the big German manufacturers squarely in its sights, and producing a hi-po sedan would be just the thing to give the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG something to worry about.
JPCN believes it is only a matter of time before a GS-F appears in showrooms, however 2012 is simply too far away - make it happen now!
