Mazda Feels Generous, Hands Out 8 Year/100,000mile Engine Warranty For RX-8s

North American RX-8 owners are gunna love this. In a tremendous expression of confidence in their trademark rotary engine, Mazda have decided to slap an 8 year/100,000 mile warranty on the engines of all RX-8s. And when we mean all, we don’t just mean all new-build RX-8s, but every RX-8 sold since 2004.

It gets even better. Since the warranty is retroactive, RX-8 owners who’ve had to shell out for new motors within the 8 year/100,000 mile period may be eligible for a reimbursement provided all work carried out was done by an authorised Mazda dealer. The warranty covers all internal parts, seals and gaskets as well as the housing itself. There are a few other caveats which you can check out here, however it’s encouraging to see Mazda make such a vote of confidence in their own product in this way. As they said in their press release:

The warranty extension is proof of the company’s faith in the rotary engine, a hallmark of Mazda’s engineering leadership since 1967 when it first appeared in the Cosmo Sport 110S.

Now, if only every other manufacturer had the same kind of faith in their own cars.
