We’re all familiar with the Nissan RWD budget sports coupe that’s supposedly just around the corner, but up until now we’ve never managed to pin down exactly what the end product will look like. Now, thanks to an image that was apparently taken at a recent Nissan GT 2012 event, we may have our first good look at the successor to the much-loved Silvia.

The car is heavily obscured by shadow (much like the 370Z teaser image taken at the same event), but there’s some rather prominent rear fender flares that suggest the wheels inside them are the ones taking power to the pavement. The front also appears to contain some Silvia DNA, with the bonnet’s squared-off leading edge and those sharp headlight clusters evoking memories of the S13.

However, the one part of this picture that doesn’t sit well with the Silvia theory is that thick B-pillar and divided rear window, which makes this mystery car look more like a four-door sedan and less like the two-door RWD headkicker it’s supposed to be. Are Nissan thinking of giving their RWD sportscar an extra pair of doors, or is this simply a completely different vehicle? An answer will probably be more forthcoming at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show, when this model is likely to make its debut.
