The Ultimate Toorak Tractor: Twin-Turbocharged Infiniti FX35

It’s not often that we talk about SUV’s here on JPCN. In fact, this is probably the first time we’ve ever devoted an entire post to a Japanese 4WD wagon.
“BUT TONEZ”, you exclaim, “dis iz Japanese Performance CAR News, not Japanese Performance TRUCK News, LOLZ”.
Valid point, dear reader, but I assure you: with two turbos, 500hp and a 12-second timeslip, this FX35 ain’t your average soccer-mom staff car.

Because the FX35 is based on the 350Z and G35/V35’s FM platform and uses the same 3.5-litre VQ35DE V6, practically every engine upgrade available for the Z and V35 Skyline could also be applied to the FX. This means superchargers, funky inlet plenums, lightweight internals and turbocharger kits can all conceivably bolt onto the FX35’s motor, and considering there’s a large number of turbocharged Z’s out there already running between 400-500hp there’s some serious performance potential to tap into.

I’ll be honest with you: SUV’s are not my thing. Performance SUVs even less so, but I can’t help but admire this FX35 for it’s uniqueness. It’s not often that somebody will apply street racing modifications to a big, bulky SUV and I applaud Viet Nguyen - the owner of this car - for daring to be different. He could’ve got some easy grunt by using the faster VK45DE V8-powered FX45 as a base platform, but instead he stuck with turbocharging a VQ, and that’s cool. Besides, how can you possibly argue with 500hp?

That’s awesome! Still not really a fan of SUVs though, but this one is done real well.
